“Many ages ago, on a distant planet circling a star named Alpha Sextantis, there was a creature that resembled a wolverine. It shared its world with an alien race called the Sextants. The Sextants named this creature ‘Vesper,’ which meant ‘to wake up’ or ‘morning’ in their language. To the Sextants, Vesper was like what dogs are to humans - a beloved companion.
As time passed, something remarkable happened. Vesper began to evolve. They not only understood the Sextant language but could also manage to mumble a few words. The Sextants were thrilled and decided to help Vesper improve their language skills. In just a few decades, Vesper had progressed so much that the Sextants were about to officially recognize them as intelligent beings.
However, trouble arose when The Engineers, an advanced race who claimed to have created the Sextants, caught wind of this. They strongly disagreed for unknown reasons and ordered the Sextants to stop educating Vesper. In fact, they went further and commanded the Sextants to destroy all Vesper. This led to a long and devastating war that the Sextants ultimately lost. But just before the war began, the Sextants took desperate measures. They sent a few dozen Vesper to stars with planets suitable for life across the galaxy. Then, they wiped out all records of these locations to protect the Vesper from their enemies.
Rumor has it that a colony of Vesper now lives peacefully on a planet orbiting a star called Teegarden, just 12.5 light-years away from Earth. If this is true, these Vesper have had thousands of years to evolve, leaving us to wonder about their achievements.
A few Sextants survived the war and are said to roam the cosmos as a nomadic species, forever searching for their long-lost companions - the wondrous wolves known as Vesper.
