After almost two decades of cohabitating with our handsome alien visitors, the charismatic Cygnus species, after years of cultivating strong social bonds and romantic relationships, achieving a superb level of sexual compatibility, nothing seemed out of the ordinary to us. Their lengthy baths, their infatuation with all things watersports, their obsession with going camping and sleeping naked over the grass and their extreme fobia to cold weather, were simply regarded as the usual oddities that come with dating an extraterrestrial.
It wasn’t until the collective blackouts started happening, usually in groups of six or seven living in proximity, unresponsive, eyes wide open, with blank stare for hours, that we begun to worry. Then the collective disappearances came, in small groups as well. You’d wake up one morning to find out that your lover was gone, no goodbye note, simoly missing without a trace. But It didn’t take long for the authorities to connect these events to the multiple theft of large cargo vessels from military facilities around the globe. Tracking the missing spacecraft led them to the vicinity of Jupiter, where our friends and lovers were caught in the act of swooping away large amounts of water from Ganymede and Europa and transporting it to their home planet, presumably under the orders of their mysterious supreme leader.
The news were devastating to everyone on earth, specially to friends and kindred. Had all those years they spent fucking us just a performance? Were they simply distracting us with superficial games of romanticism while they developed and perfected their heist behind our backs? Did they ever actually feel anything for us? In time, the answer to our questions would prove to be more disturbing than we could have ever imagined. That greenish tone of their skin was only a hint of the sickening, terrifying secret they had managed to keep from us for so long. A secret that once revealed, it would profoundly disrupt and change humanity’s systems of belief.
